The town’s watchkeeper, the fortress of Mirabela, has been guarding over the people of Omiš for more than 7 centuries now. Generations pass, people come and go, but Mirabela still stands proudly over its town. The medieval pirates, for which Omiš was infamous during the turbulent Middle Ages, used it as a watchtower, but also as a place of refuge in case of danger. Today it represents a true gem for tourists, especially those for whom a hike up to the Fortica poses too much of a challenge.
